“The security environment in our region and the world has changed in a negative direction. In such times, strength is essential for maintaining peace. Our goal is for the Hungarian Defence Forces to become a decisive, modern force in the region,” said Brigadier General Dr. Imre Porkoláb, CEO of the Defence Innovation Research Institute, on June 13, at the European Defence Fund National Information Day in Budapest.
The event was attended by representatives from other specialised ministries, including Dr. Balázs Hankó, State Secretary for Innovation and Higher Education from the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, Zsolt Bunford, Deputy State Secretary for Security Policy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Balázs Nagy, Deputy State Secretary for Transport, Environmental, and Energy Efficiency Development Programs from the Ministry of Regional Development. Additionally, foreign speakers, including Sylvia Kainz-Huber, Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space of the European Commission, gave presentations showcasing the opportunities provided by the European Defence Fund.
The goal of the event was to provide a comprehensive overview of the activities of the European Defence Fund and to strengthen cooperation between member states in the defense sector. Hungarian participants presented national research, development, and innovation programs that aim to support national defense capability development.
