On 31 August, James Appathurai, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber conducted talks with Hungarian counterparts, including the Ministry of Defence of Hungary and the Defence Innovation Research Institute of Hungary. The discussions focused on the current state of Hungary’s defence innovation ecosystem and opportunities for closer cooperation with NATO.
James Appathurai welcomed the progress made and emphasised the potential of Hungary’s defence innovation sector. He showed particular interest in hVIKI’s research, analyses and publications, and invited the Institute to present their work and share their experience at NATO expert forums.
The discussion on Research and Development efforts focused particularly on drone technology, interoperability between Allied systems and the use of artificial intelligence in defence.
The meeting helped strengthen professional links between NATO and Hungary’s defence innovation community, while opening up further opportunities to share Hungarian expertise and technological achievements with Allied partners.
