On 27 October 2026, Admiral Pierre Vandier, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), visited Hungary, gaining insight into the country’s defence capability development priorities and the national innovation ecosystem supporting them.
As part of the visit, Bernadett Kovács, CEO of the Defence Innovation Research Institute (VIKI), presented the institute’s work during discussions on how Hungary is putting these priorities into practice, with a focus on the role of innovation, industry, and academia.
She outlined how VIKI will bring together defence stakeholders, businesses, and researchers to build a more connected and effective innovation ecosystem. Through these partnerships, VIKI helps turn Hungary’s scientific and technological potential into practical solutions that respond to defence needs.
We greatly appreciate the opportunity to share our experience and engage in this valuable dialogue with NATO. Such exchanges bring fresh perspectives to our work and help us strengthen Hungary’s defence innovation capabilities while contributing to shared Allied objectives.
