In Memoriam

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Colonel Mihály Bárány at the age of 55 on May 9, 2024. Mihály served not only as an outstanding military leader but also as an excellent diplomat, representing our country and the international community. Throughout his career, he held numerous significant positions, always prioritizing professional precision and human dignity.

Since 1990, Mihály served the Hungarian Defense Forces in various command positions, where he early on earned the respect and recognition of his colleagues. Later, he excelled internationally: from 2001 to 2002 as a United Nations military observer in Georgia, and then from 2004 to 2005 within the framework of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in the same region.

From 2005 onwards, for over a decade, he fulfilled various leadership roles at the Ministry of Defense, including as head of the international relations department and deputy state secretary. He also contributed to defense innovation, most recently as EDF (European Defence Fund) expert at the Defense Innovation Research Institute.

His memory will be cherished for his professional dedication, generosity, and steadfastness in the face of daily challenges. Mihály will be remembered not only as a military expert but also as a reliable colleague, thoughtful individual, and friend. His exceptional life path and professional contributions serve as an example for all of us, and his memory is respectfully honored.
