Reliable connection is easy to take for granted — until it disappears.

In contested or extreme environments, teams may need to operate with limited connectivity, disrupted navigation, unreliable infrastructure or interference across the electromagnetic spectrum. When communications break down, the ability to move, coordinate and make decisions safely becomes much harder.

NATO DIANA’s Operational Resilience in Contested Environments challenge is focused on technologies that help people and systems keep working when conditions are unpredictable, infrastructure is degraded and standard tools can no longer be relied on.

DIANA is looking for dual-use solutions in resilient communications, GPS-independent navigation, spectrum awareness, asset protection, ruggedisation and related technologies — with potential applications in emergency response, critical infrastructure protection and defence operations.
