László Deme and Albanian Defence Minister Niko Peleshi visited the HUN-REN Wigner Research Center for Physics

On April 25th, H.E. Niko Peleshi, Minister of Defence of Albania visited the HUN-REN Wigner Research Center for Physics. During His Excellency’s stay in Hungary he was accompanied by László Deme, Deputy State Secretary for Force Development and Defence Innovation, Ministry of Defence. The Albanian members of the delegation were Gjergji Methoxha, Defence Policy Director to the Ministry of Defence of Albania, and Fatjon Hoxhalli, Advisor to the Ministry of Defence of Albania.

Representing the Ministry of Defence’s Department of Defence Innovation and Capability Development was Colonel Dr. Szabolcs Szokolyi LL.M.. The hosts from the Research Centre included Dr. Péter József Lévai, General Director, Péter Domokos, Managing Director, and Péter Dombi, Research Professor, TKP Project Leader.

During the presentations preceding the institute tour, László Deme introduced the activities of the Defence Innovation and Research Institute of Hungary, outlined the achievements to date, ongoing projects, and the focus areas of VIKI. Following this, Dr. Péter József Lévai provided an overview of the history and activities of the Wigner Research Center. His presentation was followed by a demonstration by Professor Péter Dombi. After the presentations, the delegation participated in a guided tour of the laboratories, where they explored the laboratories of quantum meteorology and quantum optics, raman spectroscopy, femtosecond lasers and learned about the current research being conducted there.

This visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen the scientific and defence cooperation between the two countries, thereby promoting the future success of joint developments.
